In the "Every breath you take" by the police, the use of repetitiveness is used as a sort of primary source to describe the happenings of his life. Lacking the apparent poetic-ism of other songs but gets across a very clear point in my view, This is an addiction song yet in a completely different way as he is addicted to a person not a drug but some do say love is the strongest drug so you can be addicted to it. He uses one phrase constantly and how he in some respects seems to actually hate her but also really loves her as he says "every step you take(ill be watching you)" meaning he is almost staking her which is by far an addiction, he cant stay away from her and he has resorted to watching her while she doesn't know, and he also says how he is there almost all of the time with the line "every move you make" saying he is there for every move. Also the fact that he feels pain when he is not with her, he pleads with her to stay, and like a strong drug he is "cold" and "longs for her embrace. Also mentioning that she is something he cant replace, with many drug users once they have taken, to take away the drug it is as though there is something missing just like her being away from him. This is a much different kind of addiction than normal drug addiction but in the end has the same effects as many drugs all the way to the extent (in some cases) to killing ones self or even hurting ones self. He also says his "heart aches" and that she belongs to him, this is also very prevalent to drug addiction as when one is addicted to drugs they believe they have a right to the drug and if they don't have it they are longing for more of it.

In Neil young's "needle and the damage done" The use of imagery is very relevant to his addiction to heroin. He starts off by introducing someone knocking on his door, this is for the purpose of either saying they need money for heroin or they want to do it with him, or in as i found out this could also be the addiction itself a description of the sweetness and greatness of it, because cellar door is the best sounding phrase in the English language, which could translate to the song as what heroin feels like.  Then he mentions how he "lost his band" this could either represent the time in which him and his band broke up or it could be he lost his band, which is a common thing with heroin to pop the vein out when you insert the needle. He goes into the people that he has seen become addicts. Then in the next stanza he goes shows a huge part in how he is addicted, by saying "Milk-blood to keep from running out." this actually means he takes some of his blood because some of the heroin is left over in the blood so it is to keep from running out of heroin, or it could also be to save good blood before he uses the needle. Then the last sentence wraps it up by basically asserting that addicts fade away. This is all in the mold of other songs similar as he has struggles staying away from these drugs. This seems to be the biggest part, obviously, because an addiction means that you have to have and he clearly show this as he describes his constant struggle through the world of an addict. He actually says the damage done, this meaning he knows what it does and what it id to him and how once the damage has been done it cant be undone at least not without time.

 In the song "going through changes" by Eminem the heavy use of of imagery and allusion to describe his tough times throughout his addiction. He describes his addiction to pills and how it puts him in all time lows in his life and he begins by saying and repeating that he wanted to die and "leave" and this is an obviously a direct result of of being addicted to drugs. This could also be a huge factor in his addiction to pills, as it is a sad time in his life. The use of pills also seems to have made him not care what people think or see of him, but he hates his reflection as he says in the first paragraph. Then he seems to be afraid of Hailie his first daughter for he doesn't want to have her see him like this.  He also mentions in the song "proof" in the second stanza, and how he "swift out and bust" this is seeming to mean he did something irrational, he proceeds to tell the listener shot at somebody, and he doesn't say right then but proof also died.  He continues by saying he cant think about it and when he does he takes these pills. This leads to the huge addiction he must have. This is because he says at the end that drug dealers hang around and do what he says, this is because he does so many drugs, that to leave would be to loose money, due to the fact he buys so much.  This relates back because drugs seem to have made him not happier like he wants to be but they make him sadder and angrier as opposed to the not depressed state he is looking for. This also leads to him being scared to let his daughters see him and eventual divorce of his wife, which happened earlier in his life.

In the Rolling stones song "mothers little helper" the reference of mothers little helper is to Valium, and the use of metaphor and repetition further increases the value of what is said.  The line "running to the shelter of a mothers little helper" is where the metaphor is although this can be thought of in many different ways, i believe it is either a metaphor for the cabinet that the pills are in or it could be personification calling the pills a sort of safe house in which a mother could run and hide in. This would further the idea that this drug is a feel good drug that may cause happiness from the beginning, and get worse as time goes by. This mother in particular starts off talking one of the pills and slowly goes u and begins taking four at a time, this is implied to be a bad thing of course. The way it seems like an addiction is because she will go to the doctor take four pills and then ask for more of them, each time during the day the amount of pills go up, this directly correlates to addiction. Not only that but with the repetition that is present with "they just helped her on her way, through her busy day." and the change in the end to "your dying day" symbolizes that if they take to many they will probably die, and to make it worse they changes it to you, to make it more personal. He also mentions an overdose, this immediately makes it scarier. Also he ends with the you to kind of say that it could happen to anybody even you, or he could be referring to himself as the one who might take them. This is why addiction's bad.

pink floyd the wall

In pink Floyd “The Wall” the music video seems to convey the fact that school is meant to be unimaginative and boring. By using imagery to convey the theme of sameness the kids wear masks that don’t have real faces and are all exactly the same, this explains the lyrics “just another brick in the wall.” Also by using imagery pink Floyd seems to suggest that the kids are in some sort of internment camp, something similar to Nazism. This is depicted in the symbols of hallways and large rooms where the children seem to be locked in or kept.  Also in the video it is very relevant as in the first part when the teacher takes away his poems it shows a sort of resistance, this is very much shown in the lyrics and then enhanced and revealed with the poem making. The tone that seems to be in the video and the music itself is very rebellious also as it seems to want to break free of the conformity even though that is all there is in this world of the video, the students don’t really reflect this unless the focal point is only on the boy in the beginning in which case it is very reflective.
